Index.hu is an online media news publication based in Hungary. The majority of their publications are circulated in Hungarian, though the site also often (more recently) produces material in English. Index has been around since 1995 when it was founded by Andras Nyiro. The site was originally titled Internetto.hu, but went through a change in 1999 when IDG (international data groups) proposed a media buy-out. Nyiro, instead, formed a new company titled Consulting URL with Gabor Gerenyi and Peter Uj to ‘buy out’ internetto in April 1999 for 15 million forints. Following this, the entire editorial board was redesigned as CEO Istvan Biro fired the group affiliated with Consulting URL in outrage. Uj and Gerenyi were soon rehired for Index.
